Meet Brew Master, Arno Matthee, the man in charge of Noon Gun Brewery’s beer production.
On the pursuit of the secret to outstanding brews, Arno has tried traditional Umqombothi in Africa, sampled and produced the indigenous pale ales of India, tasted micro-brews laced with interesting ingredients in America and Canada and attended diverse beer house gatherings in Europe to discover new and ancient brewing techniques, ingredients and tongue-tingling flavours.
Arno’s journey to Brew Master began with an Honours degree in Microbiology from one of South Africa’s leading universities, (i.e. researching all the glorious little creatures that produce that golden sustenance). He then completed a Diploma in Malting and Brewing Science from Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, known as one of the jolliest, nectar-loving nations.
With 25 years of joy-saturated beer experience in the global brew scene, Arno oversees Noon Gun’s brewing team at their mammoth facility in Capricorn Park, Muizenberg. He’s in charge of making sure every batch of brew is as consistent as the mid-day noon gun.
Ticket holders for Village Vibes 2019 will taste Arno’s consistency for themselves, with Noon Gun Brewery providing craft beer tasters and hooking up some kegs at The After Party.
